Leave the reminders to us. # Dr. Nisha Maheshwari # Kayla Vidoni Dr. Jeff Castel works full-time at his Brooklyn, Ohio dental practice. He enjoys working with all ages from children to the elderly. He graduated from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry and then completed an additional residency program at Ohio State in Advanced Education in General Dentistry. It consisted of advanced studies and skills not only in general dentistry, but also in endodontics, oral surgery, geriatric dentistry, periodontics, implant and pediatric dentistry. He is the former president of The Greenbriar Dental Study Group consisting or general dentists, oral surgeons, endodontists, periodontist and orthodontists. Prior to dental school, Dr. Castel received a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Molecular Genetics and a minor in Communications at The Ohio State University. Dr. Jeff Castel and his well-trained staff stay on top of the most advanced techniques available to the dental industry and remain current in continuing education. His goal is to improve and maintain beautiful smiles using the most advanced dental techniques in the most friendly and comfortable atmosphere available. Each person is a unique individual and has unique issues and concerns. Dr. Castel lives in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio with his wife and two children. He is active in his community, in his church, loves spending quality time with his family and has always enjoyed playing and watching sports. Dr. Nisha Maheshwari joined Dr. Castel’s practice in early 2024, bringing a wealth of knowledge and a commitment to excellence in patient care. Dr. Nisha is also a decorated professional, having received numerous prestigious awards, including OKU honors (awarded to the top 5% of students), the Periodontal Recognition Award, the Excellence in TMJ and Oral Facial Pain award by the AAOP, the Ismail Syed Memorial Award, and multiple scholarships from the Ohio Dental Association (ODA). She is also part of the ADA, ODA, and GCDS society. Her dedication to dentistry is matched by her passion for creating a welcoming environment where patient comfort and care come first. Outside the office, Dr. Nisha enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, and playing badminton, embracing a balanced lifestyle that fosters both personal and professional growth. Also sometimes known as “caps”, the dental procedure known as crowns are a type of restoration we place to help hold teeth together when they have fractures or have very large fillings with a very limited amount of natural tooth structure remaining. Without a crown, some teeth are more susceptible to breaking. Bridges are a type of fixed restoration to help replace single or multiple missing teeth. This option uses teeth next to spaces in order to attach artificial teeth to fill the spaces left by missing teeth to improve esthetics and function. This type dental fixture is inserted directly into the empty space left by a tooth that was removed. It is then used to attach a crown directly into the site of the missing tooth. It is usually a two step process where the fixture is first inserted to replace the missing root and then followed up with attaching a crown directly to the artificial root. These are thin pieces of porcelain that cover the front side of teeth to replace missing tooth structure or to cover unaesthetic looking tooth structure for a better appearance. These are removable artificial teeth that provide another option to replace missing teeth. They can either be freely taken in and out of the mouth or be attached with implants for a more confident fixed and supportive feel. **Partial Dentures** – This type of denture can be made when some of the teeth are still going to be kept for esthetics or in order to use to anchor the artificial denture teeth. **Complete Dentures** – This type of denture is made when no teeth remain in the mouth. This is a procedure that removes the nerve and blood supply out of the tooth in order to eliminate pain and infection and often allows Dr. Castel to save teeth rather than pulling them. When a patient has gum tissue disease, it is important to eliminate infection that causes deep pockets between the teeth and gums that can lead to gum recession, bone loss and tooth loss. It is well documented that there is a correlation between gum disease and heart disease. Sometimes teeth need to be removed for a variety of reasons. Some may be unable to be fixed due to advanced loss of tooth structure. Some people may elect removal of teeth due to pain, crowding or a host of other reasons.  Teeth can be straightened in multiple ways. The most well known way is using wires and other appliances to do this through orthodontics. Another way is to give the appearance of straight teeth using crowns, veneers, etc. Orthodontics can sometimes take years to complete as compared to crowns and veneers which may sometimes be completed within weeks. There are multiple ways of making teeth look whiter. These procedures include internal bleaching from the inside out or external bleaching which includes in-office or at-home bleaching. We make impressions of your teeth then fabricate custom trays that are filled with whitening material then placed over the teeth. This at-home bleaching can take a couple weeks but the effects are usually noticed within days. Teeth can again become stained over time after any whitening system you may use, so it is great to have the take-home trays in order to repeat the bleaching system at some point in the future. We try very hard to see our patients the very same day they call with an emergency. Often times we can complete the emergency treatment at that same visit to eliminate pain or other symptoms. Many people are nervous to visit the dentist.  We understand this.  There are many reasons a patient may be nervous whether it was a bad previous experience or just a discomfort with someone looking in their mouths.  Sometimes just the unknown may make some people nervous.  We use several techniques at our office to help anxious patients have a better dental experience.  We encourage the patient to help in dental decisions concerning their dental health.  We discuss the treatment as much or as little as the patient prefers in order to help remove the “unknown” for the patient.  We use thorough anesthetic techniques to make sure our patients are totally comfortable.  Finally, the patient has the option of using laughing gas (also called nitrous oxide).  This is a gas that safely allows them to relax during treatment and remain fully awake.  Afterwards they can safely drive home on their own when the procedure is completed. We treat tooth pain, gum pain, bubbles on the gum, swelling, loose teeth, broken teeth, missing teeth, stained teeth, crooked tooth, spaces between teeth and esthetic concerns. In our office we treat dental needs requiring crowns, bridges, implants, dentures, fillings, extractions, gum treatment, root canals, whitening, cleanings and more. Cavities are caused by repeated acid attacks on teeth.  Bacteria in the mouth converts sugar found in food and drinks into acid.  This acid can attack teeth for more than 20 minutes after eating or drinking.  It can eventually cause tooth decay and cavities.  Sugar and acids can be found in food as well as common beverages such as fruit juice, sports drinks and soda.  The longer it is allowed to remain on the teeth, the higher the risk of tooth decay. Thorough brushing with a soft bristled tooth brush for 2 minutes 2 times per day is essential to help prevent decay and help keep gum tissue healthy.  Routine visits to the dentist can also help prevent dental problems from arising and help identify and treat issues while still in initial phases.  Early dental problems can progress into much larger concerns if left untreated, leading to possible pain, swelling and even tooth loss. Proper nutrition and minimizing sugar and acidic foods and drinks are also important.  Baby bottles should be limited to waking hours and never contain anything other than water during sleeping hours.  Milk in bottles while sleeping can cause destruction of teeth throughout the child’s mouth due to Baby Bottle Caries or Decay.
